We will feature the film, FLOW, to bring awareness to our community about the the reality about water. Irena Salina's award-winning documentary investigates into what experts label the most important political and environmental issue of the 21st Century - The World Water Crisis.

Salina builds a case against the growing privatization of the world's dwindling fresh water supply with an unflinching focus on politics, pollution, human rights, and the emergence of a domineering world water cartel. The film introduces many of the governmental and corporate culprits behind the water grab, while begging the question "CAN ANYONE REALLY OWN WATER?"

Beyond identifying the problem, FLOW also gives viewers a look at the people and institutions providing practical solutions to the water crisis and those developing new technologies, which are fast becoming blueprints for a successful global and economic turnaround.

Award for Water Activism

Vicky Butcher from "Water For Children Africa" will receive an award for her work and dedication to providing safe water for children living in the rural villages on the continent of Africa.

The 5k walk will be held at De Anza Cove in Mission Bay on Sunday, March 22, 2009 beginning at 10:00am. During the event, walkers can choose to carry buckets of water to simulate the journey that women and children make every day in countries around the world to obtain water. Registration is open to the public and free to all those who wish to participate. Donations from the event will go towards the building of a system of wells in Nicaragua.

World Water Day will focus on water, gender and poverty alleviation.  Water and sanitation are critical factors to alleviate poverty and hunger, for sustainable development, for environmental integrity, and for human health.
